Lead Paint

If you are planning a major restoration of an older building, remember to check for the presence of lead-based paint. Lead paint has been banned by the federal government since 1978, but many older structures may have it. It particularly affects small children and pregnant women. Lead may be in the water from lead pipes, the surrounding soil from water runoff or previous repair work or even in leaded crystal. However, the main culprit is lead dust caused by construction.
